The original concept was inspired by kaiju films like Godzilla, Pacific Rim, and Shin Ultraman. However, I wanted to put those themes into a different world that felt truly alien. Unfortunately, the first task was to find royalty-free images of a chaotic crowd of people running away; however, most images available were of natural disasters, so I quickly steered away from those images. Then, I started building the world from the ground up by layering different skies on a desert landscape that included old ruins. Deserts have always been featured in Sci-Fi concepts such as Dune or Starship Troopers. Subsequently, I stuck to my Kaiju theme by putting a tongue-in-cheek plushie on the horizon. Finally, my working concept was to mix aspects of Indiana Jones into a Sci-Fi-esque environment. The image captures an Indie-like character (me in a bathrobe and headphones as a futuristic visor), escaping an ancient alien temple with an artifact in hand. Although on the horizon, an ancient creature has awakened to enact revenge on any unfortunate soul in its path.
