My original concept involved capturing a nostalgic spirit of Halloween with dark colors and heavy shadows. However, after this project, I think I’ll invest in a Wacom tablet because some of the shapes I originally wanted to utilize (i.e., castles, bats, trees) were just too difficult for a beginner like me. For example, why does creating a bush have 18 different steps in Illustrator? Instead, I managed what I could with some spooky trees, a castle in the back, and some gravestones in order to convey my theme. I think the dark colors go really well together, although I wish I could utilize better shadows to incorporate depth and realism into my image. I feel at the moment, this project looks almost like those corporate graphics you find everywhere, and I hope to push it past that in the future. I did have fun with the trees, though, as it allowed me to dive deeper into Illustrator’s transform tools.
